Barndominiums or barn homes can be a cost effective building option for rural housing. Simple country living is a dream for many people living in the South. But before you place that order for your metal building kit, there are a few things to consider. . .
As a disclaimer, we have seen several challenges so far regarding building barndominiums in Georgia.
The two main areas of concern are - county codes and ordinances and financing.
We urge anyone that is planning to build a barnominium to first check with your county planning and zoning office to see if barnominiums are allowed in your county.
The second area of concern is financing. Most mortgage companies do not finance unconventional homes such as barnominiums. Regulations are always changing, but there is a possibility that you will need a large percentage of cash up front to start your project.
